DIY Outdoor Halloween Decorations:

1. Items Needed for DIY Pumpkin Lights

These pathway lights are one of the main items needed to create the coolest DIY outdoor pumpkins you have ever seen! If you already have solar powered pathway lights on hand, you’re in luck, because this project just got a lot cheaper!

My main priority when looking for lights was to make sure the light (top part on pole that goes into the dirt) would fit inside the pumpkin pail I planned to purchase from Target. Tip: Just make sure to look at dimensions under the specifications tab.

These pathway lights measured: 5.12 x 5.12 x 19.5 inches (H). The pumpkin pail linked below measures: 7 Inches (H) x 7 Inches (W) x 8 Inches (D).

SHOP PUMPKINS At Target

These are the main items needed for you to create the cutest DIY outdoor pumpkin decoration pathway lights. These are the exact items we used to create our custom lights pictured above!

If these are unavailable, you will want to look for pails and lights with similar dimensions to what I listed above. Or, if you’re really good at math, you mainly want these to hug the light but still have space to be staked in the yard. Make since?

You will also need a utility knife or a box cutter to carve an x into the base of the pumpkin. Linked one you can use with great reviews above. Key features: anything with a sharp enough blade should work.

2. The How | Creating the best DIY Halloween Pumpkin Lights

To start you will want to make sure your lights have all had plenty of UV exposure so that way tonight, after assembling the DIY pumpkin lights will turn on. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait a day for them to be charged to work at night.

After your lights are charged, bring them in, cut an x into the base of the pumpkin, it should look something like this:

Then take the solar pathway light off of the yard stake, and push the stake that goes into the dirt with the pillar the light clips onto, through the bottom of the pumpkin, like this:

Once you’ve successfully pushed the pillar through, pull out the stake part, and place it on the bottom of the pillar, and then place your light into the top. The pathway light should look something like this:

Slide it until the top of the light meets the top of the opening of the pumpkin & it will look like this:

Once you’ve completed all of your pumpkins place them on your pathway or around your sidewalk or garden beds and wait for the sun to go down… The lights are sure to be a highlight of your Halloween decor, and cost a fraction of already made halloween jack-o’-lantern lights that are sold in the store.

These only cost $9 per 6 pumpkins + your solar lights (I don’t factor those into the cost because those are an item that can be used all year long!) I mean it just makes since, right? HAHA…

Halloween Inflatables

If you don’t want to create these, Home Depot and Lowes both have there own versions already made, they’re battery powered, I’ll like them here (Home Depot) and here (Lowes).

3. Halloween Inflatables | The Easiest Addition to Any Yard With a Big Impact

Halloween inflatables have to be one of the best ways to amp up your yard especially if you have a small amount of space for storage. Plus, they’re super fun, and you can usually find a variety of shapes, sizes and characters that are sure to add another level of originality and appeal to your outdoor display.

Here are a few of our favorites this year:

These three inflatables are all different, but they’re hopefully a source of inspiration for your Halloween outdoor decorations for your front yard. We actually have all three of these inflatables, and we actually put the ghost inside our home in the front window to keep him clear all of the elements. (We live in Florida, and it rains quite a bit.) Surprisingly, it provided a nice 3D element to our exterior this past Halloween.

4. Halloween Up Lights | The Easy Route

Halloween uplighting is basically the easiest way to add any decorative element to your Halloween outdoor decor! Trust me when I say you will not regret adding these to your yard. We are constantly asked about them, and all they require is to be laid in the yard, plugged in, and boom, you have a magical display. The best part: you can use these for every holiday!

We purchased these lights last Halloween and have used them for children’s birthday parties, and all of the holidays: Christmas, St. Patricks Day Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July! They’re the perfect investment for year round use!

5. DIY Halloween Arch | Cheap and Easy

These Halloween DIY arches are all over the internet these days, and rightfully so, because they make a huge impact and they are pretty simple to create, and depending on the pumpkins you use they can also be extremely affordable! For this project you will need:

PVC pipes cut to size:

A circular drill bit:

Jack-O’-Lantern pumpkin buckets:

Fishing line:

Halloween or Christmas lights:

The twinkling lights created a super spooky glowing effect.

To start you will need to measure the height you’re looking for, what you plan to use to anchor them, and then start the arch base with PVC pipes. You will use the drill and bit to create the holes for the pipe to slide through, and then you will also want to drill a hole in the back of the pumpkins for the lights to be placed within the pumpkin so that the glowy ambiance will show through.

Our neighbor tried this project, she and her husband finished it in a day, and it turned out so incredibly cute! To create stability she used fishing line to hold it up around her pillars and utilized a hook above her door with fishing line too. I think it turned out adorable!
